Stockport named among the UK's 'most forward-thinking' boroughs

Stockport is 'one of the most investable and forward-thinking boroughs in the UK'.
That's according to Price Waterhouse Cooper (PwC), the multi-national professional services company.
In a report which analyses growth in cities and towns across the UK, PwC praised Stockport for its new housing projects, busy events calendar, and wealth of bars, restaurants, and leisure spots.
PwC said that Stockport is carving out an identity for itself, having moved away from simply being seen as an offshoot of Manchester.
"By combining proximity to the city centre with a distinct place identity and more affordable costs, Stockport is starting to compete on its own terms", they said.

PwC also singled out Stockport's Mayoral Development Corporation, a new body established to help regenerate the town centre.
Among the MDC's biggest projects is Town Centre West, which will see 130 acres of Brownfield Land around King Street West transformed into 4,000 new homes.
"Stockport's experience illustrates how a medium-sized town can deliver large-scale regeneration", PwC said. "By combining bold local leadership, institutional innovation through models like the MDC, and a commitment to true collaboration."
Speaking about being recognised in the report, a Stockport Council spokesperson said: "From 4,000 new homes to a stunning rooftop park, modern workspaces and revitalised leisure spaces – we're building a town centre where people want to live, work and spend time.
"This recognition is about more than regeneration – it's about opportunities, jobs and a brighter future for everyone across our borough."
