A Stockport man has been sentenced to over four years in jail following a burglary and robbery spree.

24-year-old Owen Dunn from Bredbury stole e-bikes, motorbikes, and a tent box in a string of separate incidents across Cheshire, alongside his accomplice Andrew Hughes (40, of Runcorn).

Their spree started on 19 August 2024.

In the first incident, the pair rammed a 15-year-old off his e-bike using a car, then stole the bike, leaving the teenage rider on the ground with minor injuries.

A few days later, on 30 August, occupants of an address on Elm Rise in Frodsham were contacted while on holiday by their neighbours, who alerted them that it looked like their garage door had been forced open.

Two motorcycles and two e-bikes had been stolen from the garage. The total value was more than £14,000. These items were never recovered.

Three days later, occupants of a separate address in Sandfield in Frodsham realised a tent box and roof bars - worth well over £1,000 in total - had been stolen from the top of their vehicle.

Two men were later disturbed on 8 September while trying to steal a similar tent box from the roof of a vehicle parked on a driveway.

They fled the scene in a grey Ford Puma - the incident was then reported to Cheshire Police who spotted the escape vehicle on Chester Road in Helsby.

Police stopped the vehicle soon after - while two passengers escaped, officers stopped and detained the driver who was subsequently identified as Andrew Hughes.

Owen Dunn was later linked to the offences due to messages found on Hughes' mobile phone, as well as CCTV.

Although he was one of the passengers who had fled the Ford Puma on 8 September, he later handed himself in on 19 January 2025 at Runcorn Custody Suite. This followed officers conducting a number of arrest attempts at associates' addresses in the Runcorn area.

The pair were sentenced at Chester Crown Court on Monday 2 February, after having previously pleaded guilty to robbery, burglary other than a dwelling, theft from a motor vehicle, and attempted theft from a motor vehicle.

Police Constable James Wright said: "Hughes and Dunn were relentless in their offending. Not only did they target innocent people's belongings for their own selfish gain, but they also carried out a frightening attack on a young boy to steal his bike.

"It's a miracle he was not more seriously injured, and I hope the sentences handed down demonstrate how seriously we take offences of this nature.

"Our officers were able to collect a catalogue of evidence against the pair, leaving them with no choice but to plead guilty and face the consequences of their actions."
