A Stockport man has been jailed for his involvement in a burglary in Wilmslow.

41-year-old Damian Ormiston, of River Street, was sentenced to 2 years 8 months in prison after pleading guilty to burglary with intent to steal.

In a trial at Chester Crown Court on 15 August, the court heard how Ormiston, along with two other offenders, Dale Fitzpatrick and Geoffrey Pearson, broke into a house on Mobberley Road via a skylight in March this year.

Once inside, the trio stole jewellery and three high-value cars.

Fitzpatrick and Pearson - the two other trio members - were both arrested shortly after the burglary when they were stopped by police in GMP driving one of the vehicles that had been stolen.

Police had to trace Ormiston using telecommunications data and downloaded phone data seized from Fitzpatrick.

Following the sentencing Detective Sergeant Laura Fox, of Cheshire Police, said: "Burglary is a horrific offence, to know that an intruder has been inside your home is something nobody should have to experience and as this result demonstrates, the team here within Macclesfield Proactive CID are committed to doing all we can to ensure that those responsible are held accountable for their actions.

"Ormiston, Fitzpatrick and Pearson are all prolific offenders, they clearly targeted the victim's address with the intention of stealing high-powered motor vehicles and high-value jewellery, with little regard to the subsequent emotional impact such offences have upon its victims.

"Thankfully, as a result of the dedicated work by officers, the trio have now been held accountable for their actions. Between them they are now facing more than nine years in prison.

"I hope that the sentences handed to these men will provide some closure to the victims, and I welcome the fact they are all now back behind bars. I hope this also provides some reassurance to our local communities.

"Our message is clear, no matter where you travel from, if you come to Cheshire to commit crime, you will be caught and you will be brought to justice.".
