More than 400 new homes could be built around Stockport in a number of plans submitted to the council.

Up to 250 homes are being planned on land off Windlehurst Road in the village of High Lane, close to the Macclesfield Canal by Bancroft's Bridge.

Persimmon Homes has earmarked the site for housing, which is based a short distance away from the A6 Buxton Road and the village centre.

A masterplan for the area includes designs with open space, landscaping, and access off Windlehurst Road.

The planning report states that the location has 'a reasonable range of services and facilities' nearby, as well as 'walking routes towards the local centre and primary school'.

A separate scheme in Bramhall is looking at building up to 195 homes on green belt land off Lytham Drive, near Pennington's Stables.

The developer said in a planning report that it considers some of the site to be previously developed land.

The report said the area is currently being used to house a former nursery and paddocks used for equestrian purposes.

The report stated: 'The proposal is for the erection of up to 195 dwellings, together with associated infrastructure such as roads and green infrastructure. 50 per cent of the proposed dwellings would be provided as affordable housing.'

Both schemes have been submitted to the council as initial requests over environmental impact assessments, ahead of planning applications.

As for the wider housing picture across Stockport, the borough is planning to build 25,000 homes up to 2042 as part of its draft local plan. This is a document outlining the future of development and housing.

Some sites on the green belt have been chosen as potential locations for future development, and could be released from their status to allow future construction projects.

A consultation on the draft local plan has been launched until December 21.
