Local lad Taylor West will take on a remarkable challenge this month in an effort to raise money for cancer research.

Taylor will take on the Manchester to Blackpool bike ride along with his father, Ciaran, and some work colleagues.

He is taking part in the ride on behalf of The Christie, as a way of saying thanks for his own treatment - Taylor himself was diagnosed with thyroid cancer in 2023.

After time at Stepping Hill Hospital, and at The Christie, he received successful treatment.

As a Christie spokesperson said: "The ride is not just a test of endurance but a testament to Taylor's fight against cancer and his family's appreciation of The Christie."

Starting at the Imperial War Museum at Salford Quays, the route takes in the scenic country lanes of Lancashire and finishes beneath the iconic Glitterball on Blackpool's South Promenade. The 60-mile bike ride is renowned for its fantastic carnival atmosphere.

Taylor's family, who own Westfield Minibuses in Stockport, have emphasised the importance of addressing any unusual health changes with a GP. They credited their close relationship and open communication for Taylor's timely diagnosis and treatment.
