Stockport town centre was packed yesterday (Sunday 9 August) as visitors flocked to see Krazy Races.

This free soapbox racing event saw around 30 teams speed down from St Peter's Square to Chestergate in their homemade vehicles, powered by nothing but gravity and courage.

The participating teams were mostly made up of local businesses and groups, who helped raise money for some wonderful local causes.

Racers were given prizes for fastest time, best performance, best cart, and public votes.

The full list of winners is as follows:

• Champion: Devils Haircut Racing (20.32 seconds)
• Second place: Marple Mad Athletic (21.39 seconds)
• Third place: Octo-Box (22.70 seconds)
• Public vote winner: High Peak Comps
• Best performance award: The Boysmin
• Best-designed cart award: The Sugar Snatchers
• Team of teams award: SK Bombardiers

SK Bombardiers had topped the table on average by round three, tracking an incredibly speedy 19.67 seconds in what was a record for this course.

However, in the final round it was Devils Haircut Racing who won out.

A Krazy Races spokesperson described the event as 'unbelievable'.

"Thank you so much to our phenomenal racers and of course our headline sponsor @totallystockport for making today happen", they said.

"We're very proud to have supported our headline charity Signpost for Carers today.

"Today's crowd has been utterly epic, so a huge thank you to anyone who's come along to cheer on our racers and bask in the atmosphere!"

Totally Stockport, who helped organise the event, also said: "Busy streets, good trade for businesses, new visitors, laughs and smiles all over town.

"All of this is possible because of our fantastic local businesses who opt in to Totally Stockport so we can fund and organise this community events!"
