With La Boca to La Stocka in full swing, Stockport Council is calling for street artists to work on another project of beautification, this time in the Underbanks.
The council says: "We are looking to appoint experienced street artists (either a collective, organisation or individual artists) to manage the production and delivery of art installations in Stockport town centre."
This project - dubbed 'rediscovering the underbanks - will follow on from a 'phase one' of artworks last year, which includes the Garden Tiger moth mural by Paintsmiths, Otto Schade's Jimi Hendrix painting, Emily Flanagan's 'shop local' figures, and Qubek's Underbanks mural opposite the Cracked Actor.
Phase two will see four more paintings, three in the underbanks and one on Princess Street.
The plan is for the artworks to be completed over the course of October / November 2023.
Stockport Council says: "These art installations should have a strong focus on storytelling and linkages to the history of the area.
"Varying in location, size and surface material, the street installations may feature anything from large scale murals to smaller interventions.
"We are also committed to ensuring that this project is driven by the voices of as diverse a spectrum of artistic styles and lived experience as possible, including a cross-genre range of street art and mural styles."
Applicants can benefit from £14,000 of funding for this project, making it a fantastic opportunity for artists.
If you're an experienced street artist and fancy taking part, have a look at the briefing pack HERE for further details and information on how to apply.
Shortlisting will take place in the week beginning 2 October, with decisions made in mid-October.
