'Merseybay', Stockport's answer to the seaside, has returned to the town centre.

The summer mainstay features an outdoor beach, deck chairs, fairground rides, and beach refreshments, all in the familiar environs of the Merseyway shopping centre.

Whilst children play in the sand, hop on the carousels or enjoy the inflatable slide, parents and carers can relax on the deck chairs and enjoy the sun.

The free beach is open daily, with a variety of midweek events every Wednesday. Tomorrow (Wednesday 9 August), for example, will see pirate-themed activities for some swashbuckling adventures, whilst last week featured some Barbie-themed fun.

Victoria Nichol, Centre Manager said "We're delighted to announce that Merseybay will be returning to the centre this summer. Attracting hundreds of visitors to the town and providing families with lots of activities to enjoy during the school break, the free beach will be open daily and will play host to a variety of mid-week events every Wednesday."

Cllr Colin MacAlister, cabinet member for economy and regeneration at Stockport Council, said: "Following the completion of the new paving outside Primark, we're extremely happy to see the return of Merseybay for the summer holiday period. It has proven to be a very popular event with our residents in previous years and is another fantastic reason why you should head into our town centre.

"Along with the popular frog trail making a return again this year, Merseybay is a great addition for the town as we mark our Town of Culture status for 2023."
