Stockport borough wins big at Cheshire Best Kept Station Awards
By Alasdair Perry 9th Feb 2026
A string of Stockport stations have done the borough proud at this year's Cheshire Best Kept Station Awards.
Romiley, Marple, Rose Hill, Reddish, Heaton Chapel and Stockport stations all came away from the ceremony - held on Thursday 5 February - with an accolade.
The awards aim to celebrate the communities who work to improve railway stations across Cheshire and parts of Greater Manchester.
Winning the grand prize was Romiley, which picked up the award for Cheshire's Best Kept Station in 2025.
Rose Hill, meanwhile, picked up the Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) award. Heaton Chapel also picked up the highly-commended award from TfGM.
Marple was deemed to be the Best Staffed Station.
Stockport was given the Art Project award. Reddish South was similarly highly commended in this same category.
Mark Barker, chair of the Cheshire Best Kept Station Awards, said to the shortlisted teams: "Your hard work and pride in your stations make a huge difference, not only to the stations but to your communities.
"They are part of our lives, where journeys begin and end, whether everyday trips for work, shopping, a day trip or a night out, important journeys to go on holiday or to university. Where loved ones are welcomed or bid farewell.
"They are gateways to our communities, to our lives."
The winners were decided by a team of 20 judges who visited the stations as 'mystery shoppers' throughout summer last year.
The panel comprises former railway staff, as well as other passengers who can provide a 'non-railway' perspective.
