New ITV thriller features locations shot in Stockport
By Alasdair Perry 9th Feb 2026
Stockport has hit the screens once again - this time in a pacy new thriller on ITV.
The borough was used as a filming location for several scenes in Betrayal, a new four-part drama themed around the intelligence world.
The plot follows MI5 officer John Hughes (played by Shaun Evans), who meets a British-Iranian man with links to Stockport gangland who claims he knows about a plot on UK soil.
However, before the informant can share intelligence, he is executed, and John is forced to kill the assassin in self-defence.
John then has to face an internal investigation, manage his fraught marriage, and try his best to continue the case - before it's too late.
The series has been written by award-winning playwright and screenwriter David Eldridge and directed by Julian Jarrold, a BAFTA and Emmy nominee.
It also stars Romola Garai (The Years, The Hour), Zahra Ahmadi (Beyond Paradise, The Bay) and Nikki Amuka-Bird (I, Jack Wright, Avenue 5).
The show was filmed in Liverpool and parts of Greater Manchester, including the Merseyway car park in Stockport town centre.
Betrayal first aired on Sunday 8 February at 9pm.
You can watch episodes on ITVX here.
Not is this the first time that Stockport has been used as a filming location.
Harlan Coben thrillers Fool Me Once and Run Away were both filmed in Stockport, and the town has also hosted film crews from Daddy Issues, Peaky Blinders, and many more.
Directors say they are drawn to the location because of its mix of settings - from windy historic streets through to modern urban townscapes.
