Stockport band debuts new album rooted in their experiences around the town
By Kyra Thompson 20th Apr 2026
Stockport band Benji Bites Back have released their full-length debut album, rooted in their experiences in and around the town.
The new album, The Average of Everything is Nothing, is an alternative rock record shaped by melody, grit and a strong 1990s streak.
The 11-track album is led by singer-songwriter and guitarist, Rob Davenport, and features Clive Dove on bass, ebow and guitar, Chris Parker on guitar, and Benedict Relton on drums.
Rob said: "Benji Bites Back is the first time the songs have fully landed the way I always wanted them to. I wanted a record with melody and force in it.
"Something with real character, real grit and no compromise. Once I trusted that instinct, the whole album came into focus.
"Stockport is in the bones of it. My whole musical life has been tied to this area, and even with a wider line-up, this record was built here and carries that identity with it."
The album was produced by William Farley at Pressure Drop Studio in Stockport, a collaboration that Rob said had helped the band get the record over the finish line.
"Working with Will changed everything. He understood the sound straight away and helped shape it into the record I'd been hearing in my head," he added.
"Keeping that part of the process close to home made a real difference."
With tracks including "On the Run," "Mirror of Lies," and "Sum of These Parts," The Average of Everything is Nothing opens with a strong chapter, taking listeners on a journey.
The band have revealed that they have live plans already in the works.
You can listen to The Average of Everything is Nothing by Benji Bites Back now on Spotify and other major streaming platforms.
