Stockport Homes have announced that its anti-social behaviour service (ASB) will be renamed following an increase in its responsibilities.

Stockport Homes manage partner and council housing across the town, managing over 12,000 properties on behalf of the council and private landlords.

The organisation employs 17 staff who work in the ASB. In the past, the service typically dealt with "youths or loud music", but its remit has since widened.

A statement on the Stockport Homes website outlines: "Over a number of years, the service has evolved significantly [...].

"A large part of the work undertaken by the service involves tackling wider issues including organised criminals, cuckooing and exploitation, county lines, hate crime, domestic abuse, and other criminal activity."

In line with the widened area of responsibility, Stockport Homes announced that the service would be renamed to the "Safer Neighbourhoods Team".

In the past, the service has tackled drug dealers and threats of violence in neighbourhoods, and delivered a CCTV service.

John Bowker, executive director of operations at Stockport Homes, said: "SHG and its partners are all working towards the same goal of making our communities as safe as they can possibly be.

"Tenants and residents of our Borough have the right to live without suffering the fear and misery that crime and anti-social behaviour can bring."

Stockport Homes are also part of Safer Stockport Partnership, an organisation chaired by Stockport Council and Greater Manchester Police which includes a range of local public service representatives who work together alongside voluntary and community organisations to reduce crime, anti-social behaviour, re-offending and substance misuse.
