Stepping Hill Hospital lifts visiting restrictions
By Alasdair Perry 27th Feb 2026
Stepping Hill Hospital has lifted temporary restrictions on visiting.
The hospital introduced a temporary closure last week following a high number of norovirus cases on the wards.
A Stockport NHS spokesperson said Stepping Hill was 'glad' to lift restrictions, but encouraged visitors to remain vigilant.
"Norovirus isn't just unpleasant for those who have it", the spokesperson added.
"It impacts on our patients who are already ill, on colleagues who contract the virus, and on those who are working on affected wards.
"It also significantly impacts on patient flow, where whole wards are isolated with empty beds that can't be filled until the virus has gone."
So although visitors are now able to see patients again, Stockport NHS advised that anybody with possible norovirus symptoms should not visit Stepping Hill until at least 48 hours after those symptoms stop.
Norovirus symptoms include sudden onset of feeling sick and wanting to vomit, projectile vomiting and diarrhoea, and can also include a high temperature, pain in the stomach area and aching limbs.
