Police launch operation in Brinnington to address 'deep-rooted criminality'
By Alasdair Perry 2nd Mar 2026
Greater Manchester Police (GMP) has deployed a 'crime-smashing' team to Brinnington to tackle organised drug gangs, anti-social behaviour, and more.
The operation has seen GMP's dedicated 'Vulcan' team deployed to the area, which has previous experience working in Derker, Piccadilly Gardens, and Cheetham Hill.
The Vulcan team will carry out "a sustained campaign of activity", ranging from arrests and early-morning search warrants through to community engagement days.
The team aims to tackle criminality head-on, while 'laying foundations' to keep the crime rate lower in the future.
The Vulcan team has been on the ground since mid-February, gathering intelligence and working alongside Stockport Council and GMP's Stockport neighbourhood crime team.
Already, in the last two weeks, they've made 13 arrests, seized multiple weapons (including a firearm), and recovered thousands of pounds of illicit cash.

Detective Chief Inspector Chris Julien, from the Operation Vulcan team, said: "Brinnington is an area full of great, hard-working people who are having their lives blighted by pockets of groups and individuals – it is those people who are affected who we are committed to helping.
"This new deployment to Brinnington will enhance the brilliant work already being done by partners in the district, complimenting the local neighbourhood team and the engagement being done by the council.
"This work will relentlessly target those who commit crimes, ensuring that we utilise all appropriate punishments to stop them in their tracks.
"Vulcan has seen multiple successes since its first launch four years ago, and I hope to continue this trend alongside our partners in Brinnington."
Councillor Dan Oliver, Cabinet Member for Communities, Culture and Public Protection said, "The borough of Stockport is recognised by many as a great place to live, with improving education results, a strong local economy, and exciting opportunities in the town centre. Brinnington is very much part of that story, a proud, connected community, with residents, local groups, and volunteers at the heart of shaping its future.
"Through the Pride in Place programme, we're investing in local spaces, services, and supporting people to live healthier, more independent lives, drawing on opportunities from the UK's biggest town centre regeneration in Stockport to guide community-led projects and activities right here in Brinnington.
"Operation Vulcan will work alongside these community-led efforts, drawing on experience from many deployments elsewhere in Greater Manchester. Taking a long-term approach helps make sure everyone in Brinnington can share in the opportunities our borough offers."
