Two chefs from Stepping Hill Hospital have finished as runners up in the NHS Chefs of the Year contest.

Michelle Robinson and Slavka Vaysilova won the second prize overall, in a competition which featured chefs from hospitals all across the country.

The pair picked up their runners up accolade after being shortlisted in the national competition, followed by a gruelling five-day cooking competition in York.

The idea of the NHS Chefs of the Year awards is "to showcase the high standards in nutrition, taste, and sustainability which can be achieved in NHS kitchens across the nation", in the words of a spokesperson.

Slavka and Michelle's finish follows a continuing trend of success for Stockport NHS chefs; in 2022, then-assistant head chefs Erica Bell and Shelley Pearson-Smith were named winners of the competition. They were named NHS chefs of the year and received congratulations from Prue Leith, from The Great British Bake Off.

Both Slavka and Michelle have received warm congratulations from their colleagues and patients - and here at Stockport Nub News we'd like to pass on our own congratulations, too!
