The spiral ramp at Stockport Interchange is now open for visitors and passengers to use.

It means that people will not just be able to access the Interchange, but also the adjoining stretch of Stockport's riverfront, which has been closed for years.

The ramp is lit with LED lighting, and is monitored by CCTV. It also has an anti-slip surface.

There is now a 'seamless connection' between the transport interchange itself, viaduct park, and the River Mersey.

By extension, walkers, cyclists and wheelchair users will have better access to the Trans-Pennine Trail.

The newly-opened riverfront also means there is a long-distance cycling route connecting the train station to the likes of Cheadle and beyond.

Paul Richards, Director of Development and Regeneration at Stockport Council, said: "This is the next step of our fantastic Interchange development and we're thrilled it's open in time to play an important part in our annual Stockport Moves event at our brand-new Viaduct Park and Merseyway."
