What's on in Stockport this weekend - Film festival, markets, and more

There is lots to do in Stockport over the next few days.
Kicking off the weekend on Friday 26th is the DigiCamp event. This is a conference - but not in the traditional sense. It is unconventional in that it is led by its attendees rather than by keynote speakers.
That same evening, Foodie Friday returns to Market Place for the last Friday of this month.
Saturday is similarly busy, with another Worker Bee market taking placing in Reddish. That day will also see the beginning of the Garrick short film festival, which will run from Saturday to Sunday.
DigiCamp | Cornerstone, 2 Edward Street | Fri 26 April | 9.30am-4.30pm
DigiCamp is centred around the idea of allowing attendees to determine the agenda, as opposed to keynote speakers.
Time will be allocated throughout the day for 'conferences' which the attendees themselves will devise host.
Visitors can either come with an idea themselves, think of something on the spot, or simply see what others at the event have got to offer.
As a DigiCamp organiser says: "The concept of an unconference came about when people realised that the conversations happening outside of scheduled talks, between attendees themselves, were more interesting than what the 'expert' speakers were saying on stage.
"An unconference takes everything mundane about a traditional conference and turns it on its head. DigiCamp Stockport promises to put the fun back into conferences, cultivate new connections and spark groundbreaking ideas."
Admission is free, but requires a £3 booking fee which can be returned once you have attended the event.

Foodie Friday | Market Place | Fri 26 April | 6-9pm
It's that time of the month again!
Market Place in Stockport town centre will host a myriad of street food traders in this much-loved event in the Stockport calendar.
Proceedings will run from 6-9pm on Friday 26 April.
A description for this event reads: "Foodie Friday is a truly unique social event for Stockport town centre, creating a continental-style, street cafe culture which appeals to all ages, and gives families a relaxed and enjoyable night out with their children."
If the prospect of all those traders peddling delicious cuisine from around the world isn't enough, then there will also be live music!
Worker Bee Market | Broadstone Mill (Reddish) | Sat 27 April | 11am-3pm
Meet 50+ friendly, talented makers and food producers at this regular popular event in Reddish. Come for lunch - pizza, coffee, ice cream - and browse the stalls of handmade, affordable, quality crafts, gifts, jewellery, art, homeware and foodie treats.
Free entry and plenty of free parking. Pop into the Shopping Outlet too while you're there.
This event takes place from 11am-3pm on Saturday 27 April.
Garrick Short Film Festival | Stockport Garrick Theatre | Sat 27 - Sun 28 April | (see event programme for times)
Stockport's burgeoning artistic scene will be celebrated at an upcoming film festival at the Garrick Theatre in Stockport town centre, from 27-28 April 2024.
In this event, films submitted by local filmmakers will be shown in screenings throughout the weekend.
What's more, special guest speakers will be hosting a series of talks sharing their knowledge and experience.
It represents an excellent opportunity for local creatives not just to share their work, but also to chat with other filmmakers, and pick up some inspiration.
This will be the first event of its kind at The Garrick. Please note that the deadline for submissions has now passed, but tickets remain for either weekend or single day access.
