Pokemon GO Festival to hit the streets of Stockport this weekend

By Nub News guest writer 20th Aug 2025

This weekend (23-24 August) will see people hitting the streets of central Stockport for the Pokémon GO Fest Finale where, using their mobile devices, they will locate, battle and capture virtual Pokémon to add to their collection.

The free to play game uses your device's GPS to show Pokémon in real world locations and is currently played by well over a hundred million people worldwide. With the recent surge in popularity in the physical Pokemon card game, it is no surprise that Pokémon GO is as popular as ever.

The local Pokémon Go group, PoGo Stockport & Wythenshawe, meet throughout the week and most weekends across the region in order to do battle and win better and stronger Pokémon.

"We aim to make our group as accessible as possible, with people on hand to assist new players, as well our more experienced players." Mike, one of the group's Community Ambassadors, makes that an important aim of the group.

"Whether it's through chatting to us online or in person at one of our meetups, we will always work with people to make sure they get the best out of our events. On top of that we offer giveaways and prizes in conjunction with both the makers of the app and Titan Pops in Stockport who support our events.

"You have the chance to win anything from Pokémon cards, badges, pins to graded cards and we even have customised cupcakes on offer!"

Pokémon GO Fest is one of the biggest events on the calendar, with millions across the world playing in real time. This year also sees the introduction of new Pokémon which you are able to battle and hopefully capture.

Getting involved could not be more simple. The main events for GO Fest Finale are this coming Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th August with the events starting at 9:30am each day on Viaduct Park, found at the top of the new Stockport bus station.

After the initial meet and greets and lucky dips where you can begin the prize winning, the whole group will make their way around Stockport town centre to battle great new Pokémon and hopefully catch them for themselves. By working as a team, they can work to bring down some of the strongest Pokémon they can find in the town!

"It's a great community we have with people of all ages turning up, some with their whole families as it really is a great day out. It's a great free event that can get everyone out of the house and with so much going on during the day, there's never a chance to get bored. You may even go home with some great new rare Pokémon in your collection."

"Aside from the event this weekend, we also hold events across the region, so Wythenshawe, Gatley and of course Stockport. If you aren't able to come this weekend, there are multiple events on almost every week that you can come to."

If you are interested in joining up with Mike and the Pokemon GO Stockport & Wythenshawe group, then you can find them on Facebook (@pogowythenshawestockport) where you can also find out about all their other up and coming events.
