A 10-year-old train enthusiast is taking on a huge challenge to raise money for the place he has loved since he was five.

Joshua, from Sandbach, will visit more than 50 railway stations across Cheshire in just one day on Saturday 3 October, starting from Crewe and going on to the likes of Nantwich, Chester, Stockport and Macclesfield, raising money for Crewe Heritage Centre.

The youngster has been visiting the heritage centre since he was around five and his family say it has become his favourite place.

His love of the railway also has a personal connection, with Joshua's great-grandad having worked on the railway.

Now Joshua wants to give something back to the centre and honour his great-grandad's memory by completing his 'Great Train Safari'.

His mum, Megan Bailey, has set up a GoFundMe appeal, with £350 already raised towards a £450 target from 18 donations.

Megan told Nub News: "Joshua absolutely adores Crewe Heritage Centre, it's his favourite place in the whole world.

"He's been going there since he was about five years old, and it's where his love of trains has grown year after year.

"We know and love all the staff, they're so kind, welcoming, and have watched Joshua grow up there.

"And there's something extra special, Joshua's Great Grandad worked on the railway.

"It's in his blood, this is his family's history, and now he wants to give back to the place that means everything to him, and honour his Great Grandad's memory."

Crewe Heritage Centre is a registered charity and relies on donations to keep running, with the money raised by Joshua helping support the centre and preserve its railway history.

Joshua said: "Thank you for helping me help my favourite place."
