Sean Adams, a director at Hazel Grove-based retail display business Silverpoint, is embarking on an arduous charitable challenge across Sri Lanka – a rickshaw run covering in excess of 650 kilometres.
Alongside two of his friends from university, Sean set out to Colombo, Sri Lanka, on 3 October 2023 to take on the off-road test in a bid to raise much-needed funds for The Brain Tumour Charity. The team tackled the feat in memory of Sean's brother Les and close friend John Johns.
In preparation for the monumental event, Sean and his teammates have participated in intense tuk-tuk driving lessons and learned how to repair the vehicle out on the open road, including how to dismantle and reassemble the engine. The tuk-tuk will carry its own bespoke flag, designed by Sean and the team.
Starting an hour north of Colombo in Negombo, the team's survival skills are put to the test as they navigate rugged tracks and hazardous mountain trails to reach the finish line on the South Coast of Sri Lanka with only ten days to travel the vast distance.
With an ambitious fundraising target, all proceeds will be donated to The Brain Tumour Charity, a cause very close to Sean's heart. The Brain Tumour Charity is the world-leading organisation committed to saving and improving lives of those affected by a brain tumour. The money raised by Sean and the team will go towards funding research and offering the highest level of support to help drive urgent change to help save lives.
Upon arriving in Sri Lanka Sean commented: "This is going to be one of the toughest challenges we could undertake but no matter how tough it gets, we will keep Les and John in our minds, with our end goal to raise as much money and awareness as we can for The Brain Tumour Charity. The support we have received so far has been overwhelming and we are immensely grateful to everyone who has donated to the cause - thank you."
