A local - and indeed international - legend has sadly passed away.

Molly, who became famous for her dancing and karaoke at The Chestergate pub, has passed away at age 86.

Loved by the community, she has been described as a 'shining light' who brought happiness to all she met with her warmth, humour, and musical spirit.

Her family announced the news with a 'heavy heart'.

In a statement, they said: "Our gorgeous Mum, Grandma and Great Grandma, Molly, the dancing queen of the Chestergate has passed away today (Friday 26 September). It was very sudden.

"She went in the hospice on Tuesday, sent a lovely message to you on Wednesday saying she was trying to make it until Christmas.

"Unfortunately, this was not meant to be. Our Mum slipped away this afternoon. It was very quick, and she is no longer in any pain.

"We know she was so loved by you all, we would like to thank everyone from all over the world for taking her in to your hearts. She was an amazing lady. She is at peace with her beloved Bri (our lovely Dad).

"Our hearts are broken, but wherever she is, you can guarantee she will still be dancing."

Molly's family has started a fundraiser to give the dancing queen a fitting send off - any extra money will be donated to St Ann's Hospice and The Christie.
