A hospice patient in Heald Green was treated to a visit from two rugby stars last weekend (19 October).

Charles McNamara, an inpatient at St Ann's Hospice, received a surprise visit from Sale Sharks and England International duo Ben and Tom Curry.

As a former chairman of Wythenshawe Rugby Club, Charles said the visit was a 'lovely surprise' which left him smiling all day.

Charles has been at St Ann's for the past few weeks, after he was diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis. Due to his condition, he has been unable to attend any rugby games, which is what made this visit extra special.

"I have season tickets for the Sale Sharks games", Charles said. "I was delighted with the visit - it meant a lot to me to see the two boys."

Charles also got a Sale Sharks jersey which was signed by the pair - both of whom are flankers at premiership rugby club Sale Sharks.

Greg Kelly, a fundraiser at St Ann's Hospice, said: "It's fantastic to see two sports stars of Ben and Tom's calibre visiting an inpatient at St Ann's.

"These visits can make such a difference to the mood of our patients. The Curry brothers no doubt have a busy schedule, so for them to take time out of their day would mean so much to patients like Charles and their families."
