Results day for GCSE students across Stockport

It's GCSE results day for thousands of students across Stockport.
Stockport schools are consistently scoring above the national average of 68% for grade 4 (roughly equivalent to C) and above.

Cheadle Hulme High School records 'best results the school has ever seen'
In spite of a national slump in grades, Cheadle Hulme High has broken its own records with the best ever set of results.
47% of all grades were 7 or above, and 84% achieved grade 4 and above in both GCSE English and Maths.
Dave Brown, headteacher at Cheadle Hulme High School, said: "This year's GCSE results are absolutely incredible – we couldn't be prouder of our GCSE students who have worked consistently hard to achieve these grades. Particular thanks must go to their families who have supported them along the way; their hard work and determination has most definitely paid off!
"I would also like to pay tribute to the CHHS teachers as it's their unswerving commitment and dedication to their students which has played a major part in our success this year. Results such as these definitely don't happen by chance!"

Hazel Grove High School celebrates 'another year of success' with GCSE results
Many of Hazel Grove High School's students have achieve top grades, with an average of 5 across the board.
Nearly half of students achieved a grade 5+ in English and Maths, with 70% of students achieving grade 4+ in English and Maths, higher than the national average of 68%. 30% of students achieved grade 7-9.
Furthermore, there were some outstanding individual successes.
Elliot, Head Prefect of Hazel Grove High School, achieved grade 9 across the board.
Students Josh and Henry achieved similarly well, with all grades 9s and two grade 8s.
In a statement, Hazel Grove school said: "Year 11 students have shown excellent qualities, attitudes and habits which have enabled them to achieve their potential."

Werneth School says 'congratulations' to 2023 leavers
Werneth School offered congratulations to its students on results day. In a statement, the school said: "Congratulations to the class of 2023, who have collected their GCSE results today.
"We know how hard you have all worked, despite the significant disruption to your education through COVID.
"It was lovely to see that hard work rewarded today, with many students achieving their full potential and beyond, and many high grades.
"Whatever your next step - college, apprenticeship, start of career - we wish you well with your next steps."

Students and staff at Stockport Academy at Stockport Academy achieve 'significant success'.
Amongst those celebrating – and who achieved the highest grade 9 – were:
- Gavin Rajesh, who achieved six grade 9s and two grade 8s;
- Yugo Tsukagoshi, who achieved four grade 9s, two grade 8s, a Level 2 Distinction* and was awarded 100% in each of his maths papers, as well as 98% in Combined Science.
- Riya Lobo, who achieved two grade 9s, four grade 8s and three grade 7s;
- Isobel Hurst, who achieved one grade 9, five grade 8s, two grade 7s and a Level 2 Distinction*;
- Harvey Edwards, who achieved one Grade 9, six grade 8s and two grade 7s;
- Lydia Morris, who achieved one grade 9, one grade 8, one grade 8-8 in combined science, four grade 7s and one grade 6.
Commenting on his success, Gavin said: "I never thought I'd be in this position, and it feels kind of amazing. I really appreciate all my teachers, all the lessons I've had, my classmates, the lessons I've learned and I'm looking forward to going to college."
Maths ace Yugo said: "I've had a wonderful time here, and made loads of friends and unforgettable memories. I feel super happy with my results and am going to Ashton Sixth Form next to study A Levels in Biology, Chemistry and probably Maths!"
Congratulating the students, Principal Mrs McCann said: "I am so very pleased for our students who are celebrating their success today. Exams have been marked and graded this year in line with pre-pandemic standards and we are delighted that our students have done themselves justice.
"Their hard work, determination and resilience are to be applauded and it has been lovely today to see students celebrating with each other and with their teachers as they've opened their results. With these qualifications under their belts, we look forward to our students taking up places in local Sixth Forms or entering the workplace through apprenticeships."

'Brilliant' results for 'vast majority' of students at Marple Hall school
Marple Hall school achieved a rate of 30% for grade 7 or above.
In a statement, headteacher Mr Joe Barker said: "We should remember that this cohort had to deal with Covid affecting their time significantly in Year 8 and Year 9, but the year group put that behind them and worked incredibly hard for their results. [...] As well as this, students of all abilities have done incredibly well and should be rightly proud of their efforts.
"I'm always very aware that not every student will have done as well as they wanted to, and some will be wondering what to do next. To those members of the class of 2023 who feel like this I want to reassure you that we're here to help. If you didn't get what you wanted then don't worry – GCSEs don't define you as a person and you can achieve whatever you want to in life. Every single student will forever be a part of our class of 2023 and we are proud of you all."

'Fabulous' fifth years achieve 'amazing' results at Stockport Grammar
At Stockport Grammar school, 61% of grades are at 9, 8 and 7 with over 20% at grade 9. By comparison, 68% of grades nationally were 4 or above.
Priya Burrow was among those celebrating with 9s in all her ten GCSEs. Alongside her studies, Priya is involved in Model United Nations and School Council as well as the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme. She will study English, History, Mathematics and Philosophy in the SGS Sixth Form.
Aspiring Medicine student, Magda Zelazny was 'so relieved' with her nine 9s and one 8. Magda has taken part in Chemistry Club, Swimming and Hockey as well as the Duke of Edinburgh Award. A Levels at SGS are next - in Psychology, Biology, Maths and Chemistry.
Sachin Gholkar was celebrating success in his eleven GCSEs, including eight at grade 9. Maths, Design Technology, Geography and Physics will follow in the SGS Sixth Form with Sachin looking ahead to further studies in Engineering. A talented musician, Sachin plays saxophone in the school's music ensembles.
Head of Senior School Dr Paul Owen said: "I am delighted by the fantastic success of our GCSE pupils. Supported by their teachers, they have shown real academic ambition and have achieved truly splendid grades. Their hard work and determination, reflected in these results, gives them a strong foundation for further study. They have also continued to take opportunities to develop their wider talents. I am immensely proud of them. We look forward to welcoming back the large majority of our pupils into the Sixth Form at SGS."

Laurus Cheadle Hulme secures 'outstanding' pass rate of 78%
The Laurus School in Cheadle Hulme is celebrating an 'outstanding' set of GCSE results, with over 78% of students achieving at least a grade 4 standard pass and 61% a strong pass in English and Maths.
40% of all grades were in the top range of 9-7.
The school said in a statement: "These results are a fitting reward for the diligent and comprehensive way in which students have approached their studies and for the dedication of our staff in preparing them for their exams."
John Peet, head of school, said: 'On behalf of the whole Laurus Cheadle Hulme community I would like to say how extremely proud we are of the hard work, commitment and perseverance shown by all of our students."

The Kingsway School beats national average pass rate
The Kingsway School in Cheadle said '2023 leavers should be proud of their GCSE grades'.
76% of grades at Kingsway were 4 or above, compared to the national average of 68%.
25% of grades were 7 or above, and the school tallied 64 grade 9s - the highest possible grade.

Over 500 grade 9-7s at Bramhall High School
Bramhall high school has seen over 500 of its pupils achieve at least grade 9-7, representing just under half of the school population. In a statement, the school said it was 'immensely proud of the achievements of our students'.
Headteacher Mr Paul Williams said, "Their hard work and dedication has again given rise to a fantastic set of results for which they can be rightly proud. With the support of their teachers and parents and at a time when top grades are under pressure our students achieved over 500 grade 9-7's! I could not be more pleased to see that our students' resilience and drive has been recognised through these outstanding results!"

12pm: Councillor Wendy Meikle gives statement on results
Councillor Wendy Meikle, Cabinet Member for Children, Families and Education, said: "Congratulations to all Stockport students receiving their A-level and GCSE results over the next few weeks. You have all worked so hard and should be very proud of your achievements. For those students who didn't get the results you were hoping for, don't panic - there are many options and lots of support available in Stockport.
And I'm sure all parents, carers and teachers will join me in celebrating our young people and their achievements."

The national picture
As was the case with A Level results last week (17 August), pass rates have fallen compared to last year. 68.2% of all grades marked at grades 4/C and above.
This reflects a 'back to normal' trend, after a spike in top results during the Covid pandemic, when assessment followed different procedures.
