Residents call for tougher speed enforcement on Kingsway
By Rebecca Devonshire-Pay 8th Apr 2026
Greater Manchester residents have started a petition to call for tougher speed enforcement on Kingsway (A34).
The petition has already gained over 400 signatures in the last four weeks.
This follows two people having lost their lives on the road since the beginning of the year.
In January, 16-year old Alfie Moran died after a car collided with him, and in March, Sylvester Abayomi died in a two vehicle collision.
The petition demands speed bumps and a fixed speed camera to be installed on Kingsway between Mauldeth Road and Fog Lane.
The petition says: "The fatalities are a heart-wrenching testament to the urgent need for effective traffic-calming measures."
In July 2025, the speed limit of Kingsway was reduced from 40mph to 30mph to improve safety.
The new speed limit covers from Mosley Road up to a point 83m north of the Manchester/Stockport boundary.
