Stopfordians have been asked to help shape the Town of Culture programme for 2023 in an online survey on the Stockport Council website.

"We'd love to hear from you about what you'd like to see happening during Town of Culture and the longer term legacy you'd like it to have", the council says. "We particularly want activities to celebrate the people, places and stories of Stockport", it adds.

The focus of the survey is a series of five open-ended questions, through which residents can give their views on what they would like to see from the Town of Culture programme.

The five questions are as follows:

  • What creative activities do you currently do?
  • What creative activities would you like to try?
  • What events and activities would you like to happen in Stockport as part of Town of Culture?
  • What things about Stockport should we be celebrating during Town of Culture?
  • What difference would you like Town of Culture to make to Stockport?

In a council communities & transport scrutiny committee on Monday (12 June), Cllr Frankie Singleton similarly emphasised the council's willingness to hear from residents about what kind of events they would like to see.

The first Town of Culture event is 'Stockport Moves' on 2 July, a free sports-centred event suitable for all.

If you would like to make suggestions for the town of culture programme, you can find the survey HERE. It will stop collecting responses on 31 July.
