A new Stockport M&S Simply Food store opened today (14 June) at the retail park near Portwood Roundabout.

After a ceremony this morning, shoppers were welcomed in with a free bag, as a huge inflatable Percy Pig mascot stood by.

The new M&S Food Hall occupies the site of the old Next store - covering around 16,000 sq ft - and ostensibly aims to provide service to customers in a 'bigger and bolder' store following the closure of the Merseyway site in 2021.

It stocks the full M&S Simply Food range, and offer Click & Collect service, and will include special features such as a dedicated wine shop and a large bakery.

Store manager Anna said: "Our store has been designed with local families at its heart and I can't wait for you to discover all the exciting things we have in store."

M&S retail operations director Sacha Berendji expressed his hopes that the new store would provide an excellent service for Stockport residents, whilst creating 70 new jobs.

He issued the following statement: "Whilst other retailers go online, or sadly disappear, we are committed to having great shops.

"This means having the right store, in the right place, with the right space to serve our customers the way they want to shop today."
