Around £500,000 worth of cannabis plants have been seized by police following raids across Stockport and Greater Manchester.

Officers from Greater Manchester Police carried out the raids this week as part of Operation Mille - an operation which aims to tackle organised crime groups linked to cannabis cultivation, money laundering, and immigration crime.

Police carried out nine warrants across Greater Manchester, discovering six cannabis farms, some of which were in Stockport.

Around 700 plants were seized, which a police spokesperson said would cause 'significant disruption' to organised crime networks.

Farms such as these are used to fund criminal activity, and can also cause fire hazards for local residents. They can also increase anti-social behaviour with people coming and going at different hours of the day and night.

"Organised crime gangs distributing drugs blight our communities", Detective Inspector Abigail Thomas said.

"They cause fear and harm for residents, with total disregard for others, interested solely in their own gain.  

"I hope our intensive action sends a clear message to them that we are watching, and we will continue to pursue them and disrupt their criminal activity to protect our communities.
