A 'prolific' shoplifter has been given a Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) following a series of theft offences across Stockport.
Darren Sweeney (55) of Voewood House, Offerton, received the CBO following 11 convictions - seven theft offences, three public order offences, and one common assault offence.
Sweeney had been on a shoplifting spree across Co-op stores throughout Stockport. The CBO was granted by Manchester and Salford Magistrates' Court, and is valid until 13 October 2027.
The order also prevents him from entering any Co-op premises in Greater Manchester.
Chief Inspector John Picton said, "Stockport Town Centre Neighbourhood Team are relentless in their pursuit of criminals. Shift by shift the team proactively identify, seek and arrest criminals who are committing crime, causing harm to our community.
"The 'Can do' attitude of the team and the collective desire to leave no stone unturned to identify and prosecute offenders is clear to see every day, 24/7. Their achievements are outstanding.
"Rest assured, the momentum continues apace, tackling criminality and ASB, specifically on this occasion involving theft related offences. The message is clear - if you commit crime, we will find you and put you before the courts.
"Criminality and ASB won't be tolerated. Stockport is a fantastic place to live, work and socialise, criminals are not welcome here!"
