Steam fans across the borough will be able to catch a historic locomotive passing through a few different local stations this weekend.

On Sunday 27 October, The Peaks Express will travel from Manchester Piccadilly to Chesterfield, passing through Levenshulme, Heaton Chapel, Stockport, Davenport, Woodsmoor and Hazel Grove along the way.

The train leaves Piccadilly at 11.59am, so expect to see it at the aforementioned stations just after midday.

The train will be pulled by an LMS Stainer Class 5 4-6-0 No. 45212. Unfortunately, it won't be stopping at any of these stations, but if you'd like to hop on, the nearest place to do so is in central Manchester.

After leaving Stockport borough, the train will progress to Chinley, where it will join the scenic Hope Valley line to Sheffield.

Along the way, the train will encompass quaint rural villages such as Hathersage - recorded in the Domesday Book in 1086, and famous for its Brontë and Robin Hood provenance.

After stopping at Sheffield, the train will continue onto Chesterfield, where it will stop for passengers to explore the town.

Departing Chesterfield, the train will join the former Midland Railway's main line to Derby, before moving on to Preston and then returning to Chesterfield to pick up passengers, and back to Manchester Victoria via Stockport.

The train is due back into Victoria at 7.58pm, so if you fancy having another look in the evening, try the aforementioned Stockport stations around 7.30pm.

You can book tickets for the train and / or find more information here.

Alternatively, you can track the train at www.map.signalbox.io.
