'Prolific' shoplifter arrested in 'significant' moment for Stockport police
Police in Stockport arrested a 'prolific shoplifter' this week, in what a spokesperson described as a 'significant arrest'.
At around 11am on Monday 29 April, a woman was identified as the 'prolific shoplifter' and was subsequently apprehended by plainclothes officers on Wellington Road South.
The female was wanted for four shoplifiting offences in various stores throughout Stockport town centre. She had also failed to appear for six warrants.
Following an interview with officers, she was charged with the four theft offences, and remanded to appear at Tameside Magistrates' court.
Police in Stockport have applied for a Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) against the female in an effort to reduce her future offending behaviour.
According to the Crown Prosecution Service, a CBO can include " prohibitions to stop the anti-social behaviour, and may also include requirements to address the underlying causes of the offender's behaviour".
Arresting officer, PC Carroll, said: "This was a great spot by staff which led to the apprehension of an offender we've been trying to find for a while.
"We [...] have live communication with most stores in the town centre, as well as CCTV operators. This allows us to respond almost instantly when we receive a report like this. If you're a wanted individual, my best advice is to turn yourself in to your nearest police station!"
