Results for the local election in Stockport are in.

Out of 63 council seats, 21 were up for election this year. Labour lost two seats to the Lib Dems in Offerton and in Cheadle East & Cheadle Hulme North, meaning the composition of the council is now as follows:

  • Lib Dem (31)
  • Labour and Co-operative (22)
  • Edgeley Community Association (3)
  • Heald Green Ratepayers (3)
  • Green Party (3)
  • Independent (1)

All the smaller parties on the council came away without any losses, as Cllr Asa Caton (Edgeley Community Association), Cllr Catherine Stuart (Heald Green Ratepayers) and Cllr James Frizzell (Green Party) were all re-elected in their respective wards.

The council remains in no overall control, as it has done for 11 years. Still, although just shy of the 32 seats needed for an overall majority, Lib Dem Stockport Council leader Mark Hunter said he was "very pleased" with the gain of two seats from Labour. "We've made progress in difficult circumstances", he said.
