St Thomas CofE Primary School will temporarily close today (Monday 30 October) and on Tuesday 31st.

It is the latest public building to close in line with updated government guidance on reinforced aerated autoclaved concrete (RAAC).

Stockport Council is working alongside the school - located on Marriott Street - to make 'alternative arrangements'.

The council said in a statement: "This was a difficult decision to take but the safety of staff and pupils is our paramount concern.

"We are working closely with the school to make sure alternative arrangements are up and running as soon as possible.

"We also continue to carry out inspections across the borough so we can be assured about the condition of the roof material and that RAAC is not present."

The council says it has been carrying out similar inspections on other public buildings across the borough.
