A 34-year-old man who has been linked to 25 shoplifting offences was arrested in Edgeley yesterday (Monday 15 January).
The long-term suspect was spotted by an officer from Stockport's Central Neighborhood Team. Officers then conducted an arrest in the Thomson Street area.
Intelligence links the man to in excess of 25 shoplifting offences since October 2023.
The 34-year-old remains in custody for questioning.
Sergeant Gareth Davis of GMP's Stockport district said; "We understand from listening and speaking to our local community that shoplifting is a key issue affecting shops in the area and we want to make sure we can keep both businesses and shoppers safe as well as providing a welcoming environment.
"We will continue to carry out our dedicated patrols to ensure we can deter any would-be criminals with rigorous policing in hotspot areas. It is not acceptable this type of crime and we will not tolerate it.
"Our ongoing works means we have a suspect in custody linked to recent offences in the area and we will be working hard to ensure justice is served."
