'Potential closure considered' for Old Rectory pub in Stockport town centre

The owners of the Old Rectory pub in Stockport town centre are considering its potential closure.
The pub, based on Churchgate, offers food and drink in a Georgian-era building overlooking Market Place and the historic heart of Stockport.
Greene King, which owns and manages the pub, said a consultation is taking place over the future of the spot.
"We can confirm that a consultation at the Old Rectory in Stockport is now in its final stages as a potential closure is considered", a Greene King spokesperson said.
"Making the decision to close a pub is never an easy one, and a range of factors are carefully considered before any final outcome is agreed.
"The team at the Old Rectory has been fully informed, and our main focus continues to be on supporting our team members throughout this process."
What is now known as the Old Rectory was first built in the 1740s as a parsonage. Its first occupant was the Reverend Samuel Stead.
The building was subsequently used as an army billet during the Second World War.
After the war years, it continued to serve an ecclesiastical purpose until 1991 when it became a pub, initially managed by Boddingtons.
It later became a Hungry Horse pub, owned and managed by Greene King.
