Police have donated supplies to a sports club in Brinnington which supports youngsters in the area.

Officers from Greater Manchester Police's Operation Vulcan team called at Wellbeing Football & Sports, run by Mike Donnan, to donate footballs and trophies.

The Operation Vulcan team has been deployed to Brinnington since February 2026 to carry out patrols and crack down on illegal activity in the area.

However, as well as making arrests and seizing illicit items, they've also been supporting community projects such as this one.

The sports club provides youngsters with opportunities to take part in sport, exercise, improve their wellbeing, and make new friends.

Police donated 50 footballs and a helping of trophies, using funds from the High Sheriff's Trust.

Officers from the Vulcan team also took part in a match against some of the local adult players.

Mike Donnan, who runs the club, said: "The support Vulcan has shown Wellbeing Football and Sports over the past few months has been brilliant. It also helped show the boys and girls who attend our community football sessions that the police are just normal people just doing a job.

"The 50 balls and monthly trophies that Vulcan donated have helped massively as we are always losing the balls, and the trophies make the kids feel part of something.

"My men's wellbeing side also played a game against Vulcan - the match was played in great spirits as a lot of my participants for this session suffer with or have suffered with addiction issues, homelessness, bereavement, and a fair few have been on the wrong side of the law,

"So to see them all engaging and laughing and joking together was fantastic, - we did win 7-2- and which was pleasing for the lads.

"I can't thank Chris and the Vulcan team enough for the help and support they've given me to our sessions."

Inspector Dan Cullum, from GMP's Operation Vulcan team, added: "We have seen the difference that Mike's sessions make for young people in the area and we were glad to provide our support to this great cause.

"These outlets provide crucial opportunities for young people and can teach them valuable skills for life. It's incredibly important that we have them and to prevent them from being attracted to any potential criminality.

"Operation Vulcan will continue taking part in these sort of activities, and we would strongly encourage any groups who think they could use our input to please get in touch."
