Police have donated a haul of boxing gear to support youngsters in Brinnington.

Greater Manchester Police said it was about supporting positive life choices and helping young people develop skills and resilience.

They've given £1,000 in equipment - including headguards, handwraps, groin guards, skipping ropes and mouthguards - to Brinnington Amateur Boxing Club, funded with money from the High Sheriff's Trust.

Officers have been deployed to Brinnington since March - as well as patrolling the area and making arrests, they've also worked with local community groups and organisations such as this one to provide preventative activities for youngsters.

Brinnington Amateur Boxing Club has been operating in the area for more than 20 years.

Their inclusive boxing sessions have helped countless visitors to the club, fostering trust, discipline, and positive life choices for attendees.

Detective Chief Inspector Chris Julien said: "This equipment will support and enhance the fantastic work being undertaken by Stockport and Brinnington ABC, providing high-quality equipment for children and young people to use and develop their skills.

"Community organisations such as Stockport and Brinnington ABC are powerful local assets. They provide positive opportunities, promote health and wellbeing, build confidence and discipline, and help young people develop the skills and resilience needed to succeed in life.
