A police cordon and forensic tent is in place in Stockport town centre today (Tuesday 28 January) following a man's death.

Emergency services were called to the scene around Viaduct Street (near the bus depot) at 5am this morning.

A 52-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after 5am.

Viaduct Street and parts of Swaine Street are closed to traffic.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: "Emergency services are currently responding to a concern for welfare at Stockport train station. Sadly just after 5am, a 52-year-old man was pronounced deceased at the scene.

"A scene remains in place with several roads around the station closed."
