Plans have been submitted for a new teaching block at St James High School in Cheadle.

The new block would replace two existing buildings on site, which are nearing the end of their lifespan. One of these buildings has already been closed as a result.

The proposal would see these two prefabricated buildings demolished, to accommodate the new teaching block.

The new block would comprise four new classrooms, for 30 pupils each. The new teaching block would also include staff offices and a plant room.

In a planning document, headteacher Mr Pontifex emphasised how staff and students would benefit from the new classrooms. He pointed out that the extra space would improve the school's capacity, and that staff would benefit from the new office spaces included in the block.

The new building would be one storey. It would be built with beige bricks, to match the existing aesthetic of the site.

A decision is due in October.
