Plans have been submitted to convert Belmont House - a derelict grade II listed country house built around 1800 - into a residential dwelling, incorporating four apartments and one townhouse.
In addition, a further five new townhouses and seven new apartments will be built apart from the house around the site, which is at Schools Hill, South Cheadle.
According to the planning statement: "The apartments are designed to be attractive to a wide range of potential occupiers, including single individuals, couples and young professionals."
The apartments within Belmont House will comprise three two-bedroom apartments and one three-bedroom apartment.
The surrounding new buildings will be similarly diverse, stretching from three storey four-bedroom townhouses to one-bedroom apartments.
These townhouses are designed to be suitable for a range of small and large families.
The development ostensibly aims to boost the supply of housing, and increase the diversity of said housing on offer in the local area, contributing to a "mixed and sustainable community".
The site is in a reasonably low-density area, around one kilometre from Cheadle centre and one and a half kilometres from the nearest train station at Gatley.
Belmont House was originally a country house set within around 20 acres of formal gardens and meadows.
More recently the building served as a care home, although it has been vacant since 2017, and was badly damaged by a fire on 22 July 2021.
Less than a week after the fire, it received its grade II listed status on 28 July.
Efforts will be made during reconstruction to preserve the historical character of Belmont House; the layout which the building had in 1874 will be recreated, and where possible the "historic fabric onsite will be salvaged, restored, and re-used".
As the planning document states: "It will still be possible to appreciate the original architectural intent with detailing that evidences the age of construction, and it will still be possible to understand the historic references from the built fabric."
The decision on the plans is not yet available.
