Energy company Gridserve has submitted plans for a new electric vehicle (EV) charging hub at Stanley Green Retail Park, Cheadle.

The hub would feature 12 new charging bays, and would be based on the west side of the existing car park which serves the retail park.

It would be built on the site of 18 existing car parking spaces. These spaces would be removed in lieu of the 12 charging bays.

In the words of the applicant, the development aims to "meet the immediate charging needs of those visiting the retail park and using the surrounding road network."

The applicant adds: "It will contribute positively towards addressing climate change [...]

"The development will not generate significant additional trips on the road network, but will help support and promote the use of sustainable modes of transport for those already on the road."

They also argue that the development would not affect traffic flow on the car park, nor would the new infrastructure hinder pedestrians.

Gridserve is a national sustainable energy company, whose aim is to "develop, build, and operate dependable, low cost, clean energy solutions".

Like the company's other EV hubs across the country, this one would be based at a retail park, "allowing customers to use those amenities whilst being able to access dependable charging infrastructure".

The application comes not long after Stockport's first electric vehicle charging hub opened in Romiley, in January this year.

The consultation expiry date for this application is 17 April, or 18 April for neighbours.

The council's decision on the plans is expected on 15 May. Find more information on the application HERE.
