Stockport could get a new industrial estate and community accessible park under plans to develop a plot of land in Bredbury.

A site next to Ashton Road at Bredbury Park Way has been earmarked for the scheme, which could include warehousing and manufacturing.

This is located near the existing Bredbury Park Industrial Estate.

A previous scheme to develop the land was refused by Stockport council in March 2021, after councillors ruled that the benefits would not outweigh 'the harm to the green belt.'

If approved in future, the proposed development is expected to create a 'significant' number of jobs and provide a boost to the local economy.

Alongside new business units, the plans include creating a 'publicly accessible community nature park' as well as a 'landscaped setting.'

The borough of Stockport is undergoing major regeneration work at the moment, with new housing and business hubs being built in the town centre and beyond.

This proposed scheme in Bredbury by FI Real Estate Management (FIREM) is aimed at attracting new 'local and regional businesses' to use the site.

The developer has submitted initial reports to Stockport council about environmental and transport matters relating to the proposed development.

A planning application is expected to be submitted later this year.

Tim Knowles, founder and managing director of FIREM, said: "We believe that there is a clear and demonstrable need for good quality modern and flexible employment units in this location.

"The site is highly sustainable, being a natural extension to Bredbury Park Industrial Estate and our proposals would deliver a significant number of new jobs which will benefit residents of both Stockport and Tameside.

"Our design approach will be sensitive to the setting of the site and we will maximise retention of existing green infrastructure, and offer new woodland planting and landscaping.

"These are the early stages of our development proposals and we are keen to encourage feedback from the community."

A public consultation has been launched to gather feedback on the proposals.

Drop-in events will be held on Thursday June 13 from 3pm to 6pm at Woodley Civic Hall on Hyde Road in Woodley, SK6 1QG.

Events will also take place on June 13 between 6.30pm to 8pm at Denton St Lawrence Cricket Club, Sycamore Park, Clayton St, Denton, Manchester, M34 6LY.
