A person was found dead on the railway line near Hazel Grove station this morning (Thursday 5 June).

The incident occurred around 10.30am - paramedics were called to the scene, but despite their best efforts, the person was pronounced dead at the scene.

The person was 'hit by a train', as Manchester Evening News reports.

British Transport Police (BTP) said the incident is not being treated as suspicious.

Some train services passing through Hazel Grove were cancelled throughout today, but others are still available - check before you travel.

A spokesperson for BTP said: "Officers were called at around 10.30am today (5 June) to reports of a casualty on the lines near Hazel Grove railway station.

"Officers and paramedics attended, however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

"The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner."
