Two men have been jailed after filming themselves driving at 139mph on Kingsway before being involved in a fatal collision.
Uways Hussain (20, of Marley Road) and Usmon Mahmood (23, of Buller Road) were sentenced to over 24 years in total for their involvement in the crash on 9 March 2026, which resulted in the death of 50-year-old Sylvester Abayomi.
Sylvester was driving to work at 4.36am, entering the junction of Green End Road and Kingsway, when his car was struck by a Volkswagen Golf driven by Hussain.
Despite best efforts of emergency services, Sylvester sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead.
The car belonged to Mahmood, but he allowed Hussain to drive on the night of the incident.
In the seconds before the crash, with Hussain at the wheel, the pair's car had reached 139 mph. Mobile phone footage recovered from their phones show them repeatedly reaching speeds of 130mph, running red lights and weaving through traffic with no regard for the safety of other road users or pedestrians.
At another time during the night, the pair stopped at a petrol station, where footage shows Mahmood inhaling from a balloon while in the passenger seat.
Further footage recovered can see the Mahmood in the passenger seat inhaling from a balloon while Hussain is doing over 100mph, who also appears to be inhaling from a balloon.

Immediately after the collision, Hussain's Apple Watch detected that he had been involved in a crash and sent an alert to the police.
The alert also captured audio after the incident, where Hussain and Mahmood could be heard discussing how to flee and what evidence to remove from the car.
They also discussed reporting the vehicle as stolen.
They booked an Uber to escape from the scene, but were caught by police within 12 minutes of the crash.
The two were sentenced on Friday 29 May:
- Hussain has been sentenced to 11 years and eight months in prison.
- Mahmood has been sentenced to 12 years and nine months in prison.
Greater Manchester Police believes this is one of the first times nationally where a passenger has been convicted for aid and abetting causing death by dangerous driving.
Sylvester's partner Denise paid tribute to 'the love of her life'.
"On Monday 9 March, the love of my life was taken away", she said. "He was the most caring soul and gentle person you could ever meet.
"He had time for everybody and was loved by everyone. Syll will be sadly missed."
