A massive art project spanning 1km will soon come to Stockport town centre.

On Sunday 22 September, more than 50 artists will set up from Merseyway to Canal Street to paint a massive outdoor art gallery.

Named 'Paint Jam', the project will feature renowned artists from across the region, who will paint murals along the route.

Visitors are welcome to come along on the day, and see top artists at work.

Further still, there will also be music, live performances, food and drink, and more.

The event is being organised by John and Sophie Macaulay - founders of GRIT Studios - along with renowned street artist Jay Sharples.

The organisers pointed out some of the event highlights:

  • Merseyway: Street artists, kids' art activities, breakdancing, and surprises.
  • Little Underbank: Street artists, DJs, food and drink, workshops.
  • Hopes Carr: Street artists, DJs, dancing, and more.
  • Canal Street: Festival site with over 20 street artists, DJs, and independent food and drinks.

"This project is about knitting together, building on, and extending the Creative Quarter linking Canal Street to Hopes Carr," says John Macaulay, co-founder of GRIT Studios and Art Battle Manchester.

"Last year, 1,400 people attended with only six days' notice, which was fantastic. We're aiming to make this year's Paint Jam bigger, better, and more vibrant, creating a well-defined cultural corridor that bursts with world-class street art."

Attendance is completely free. However, you can register attendance here to give organisers a sense of how many attendees will be there.

The event has been funded by the UK government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund and is sponsored by Totally Stockport.
