Owners leave iconic Stockport pub after 25 years
The owners of the iconic Stockport pub The Midway have announced that they will be leaving the helm on 1 October.
Paul and Pauline arrived at the pub in January 1999, and have since then turned the establishment into a contemporary eating and drinking venue loved by locals. The pub even picked up a 'North West Pub of the Year' award in 2022, in what was described by the pair as 'a perfect note to end on'.
In its storied history, the pub has picked up a myriad of other awards, too: the Stockport Pub Guide's 'Pub of the Year', 'Stockport's Best Sunday Lunch', and Pure Radio's 'Stockport's Perfect Pub 2016'. The Midway was also a regional finalist in the 'City Life Pub Of The Year' award.
The owners have said they are looking forward to beginning the next chapter of their lives, and spending more time with their family.
In a statement on social media, Paul and Pauline said the following: "After 25 wonderful years at the helm; Pauline and I are sadly leaving The Midway later this year.
"It has been a privilege to be able to serve the people of Stockport for the last 30 years between The Midway and our previous pub, The Blarney Stone. We are so thankful for the great number of you who have supported us during these years and who we now proudly call friends. [...]
"We would not have been able to achieve any of what we have without the hard work of our teams, both past and present. [...]
"The Midway has built its reputation as a premium food destination in Stockport and that is as a direct result of all our team operating at the top of their game.
"We thank each and every one of you who have joined us for food, drinks, parties, weddings, birthdays, Christmases, business meetings, everything! We hope that we were able to play our part in making your time with us special.
"Our last day will be the 1st of October. We look forward to spending these final weeks serving you and we look forward to seeing The Midway go from strength to strength and continue to build in its next chapter."
