Stockport's Town of Culture programme continues in earnest with the new 'Stockport Makes' exhibition, a public art show featuring works submitted by Stockport residents.
The aim of the exhibition is to showcase local talent from across the borough, and celebrate people, places and stories through Stockport-themed artwork.
Submissions were open until 23 July for local residents to submit an artwork of any kind for display in the War Memorial Art Gallery. As part of the exhibition, the gallery hosts works of oil on canvas, pencil, sculpture, and even a Lego model.
Upon entry, visitors can pick up a catalogue of the works and a voting card. They can then vote on their favourite work as part of the People's Choice Award. The winners will be announced on Saturday 2 September at 3pm by the Mayor of Stockport, Cllr Graham Greenalgh.
Alongside the main exhibition, there is also an open exhibition displaying work from children and young people in key stages one to four.
As well as being the muse of L.S Lowry, Stockport has played host to a huge number of local artists such as Chris Cyprus and Kate O'Brien.
As the town's rich architectural heritage demonstrates, Stockport has seen hundreds of years of stylistic and artistic developments, from the medieval to the modern.
The Stockport Makes exhibition celebrates this rich local pedigree of creativity.
Cllr Frankie Singleton, cabinet member for communities, culture and leisure, said: "The Stockport Open Art Exhibition is always really popular but this year is even more special during our Town of Culture year. This is a great opportunity for budding and established artists to showcase their work in the iconic War Memorial Art Gallery, for everyone to admire.
