A Stockport-based arts group has produced a ginormous scarf to raise awareness for Alzheimer's disease.

In a project by Ohana Arts, a dedicated group of local knitters and crocheters came together to produce the longest scarf possible within a month.

The talented team of around 80 people managed to produce a scarf which was more than twice the length of Edgeley Park.

After it was displayed in the Merseyway centre yesterday (Sunday 6 April), it's now in the process of being dismantled and turned into lap blankets for elderly people in the region.

Whilst the project involved many creatives from the Stockport area, entries were also sent from Manchester, Barnsley, and even as far afield as London.

"Alzheimer's disease touches countless lives, and through initiatives like Stockport Stitch, we hope to bring both awareness and comfort to those impacted by this condition," said Jane White, a spokesperson for Ohana Arts.

"Every stitch in our scarf is a testament to our solidarity and commitment to supporting our community, and we're so blown away by the sheer number of people that have contributed and worked so hard.

"Now we've seen how many people are willing to use their talents for a good cause, we hope to continue this community spirit in other projects in the future."
