A new special educational needs (SEN) school is set to open in Cheadle Hulme this year.

Pear Tree Specialist Support High School will be based at Worcester Road, and will have the capacity for 133 pupils aged between 11 and 19.

The aim of the school is to provide 'much-needed' education to vulnerable young people in the locality - it will specialise in supporting those with severe learning difficulties.

It will provide valuable school places for pupils in and around Cheadle Hulme, meaning they won't need to travel as far for education.

The new school will be a mixed two / one storey building, with a range of facilities (Image via planning statement / NTA Planning)

As well as indoor classrooms, the site will also house a forest school, outdoor classrooms, a MUGA, landscaping, and more.

The project is funded by the Department for Education, and will be operated by The Prospere Learning Trust, a multi-academy trust with SEN expertise.

Councillor Wendy Meikle, Cabinet Member for Children, Families & Education at Stockport Council, said: "The proposals for Pear Tree High School are fantastic news for Stockport and will be of huge benefit to not only children with severe learning difficulties and associated needs in the borough who will benefit from a fantastic education close to home, but also to the wider community."

A consultation for the new school took place in 2022 (Image via planning documment / NTA Planning)

Residents are being asked for their view on the new school in a public consultation. Responses from the consultation will be sent to the Prospere Learning Trust and published on their website.
