Much-loved Bramhall fish and chip shop to close in May
By Alasdair Perry 10th Apr 2026
A much-loved fish and chip shop in Bramhall will be closing its doors in May.
Betty's Plaice, based at 12 Fir Road, announced on social media that the store would be closing in the middle of next month.
The owners said rising costs of running the business made it no longer sustainable.
"It has been an uphill struggle to keep our heads above water since we opened and unfortunately due to the continuing rising costs we can no longer sustain it", a statement on social media reads.
"It has been an amazing venture and dream of mine to be able to open my own chip shop.
"However, the other side of owning a small business is knowing the hours of hard work, by myself and my wonderful team, the sweat and tears, the constant number-crunching while trying to stay positive and provide the best customer service and food we can... still doesn't make it work.
"We truly appreciate all those who have supported us since opening and would really appreciate your support until we close, let's make this a month to remember!
"And please please please support all the other local business where possible as many others may be in a similar position to us!"
Betty's Plaice will continue to operate until the middle of May, and is open from Tuesdays through Saturdays.
