A new pop-up library will open in Marple later this month.

It will offer temporary library services while the new library and leisure hub is being constructed.

The pop-up will be based in Marple Scout Hut, and will be open on Tuesdays (12 noon - 6pm) and Thursdays (10am-4pm).

The new pop-up will have computers, storytelling sessions (Thursdays at 11am), smart lockers and, of course, books to borrow.

The library's home delivery service will also be continuing, as will the BorrowBox app.

Work is underway on the new Marple Leisure Hub, where the library will ultimately be relocated.

The new community hub will have a five-lane swimming pool, a ground floor library with a small cafe, a 60-station fitness suite, shared community spaces, and the relocated Marple clinic.

As well as the old library, the new hub also replaces the former Marple Baths building.

Cllr Geoff Abell, who represents the Marple North ward, welcomed the new community hub and said he is "very much looking forward to it being built."

He added that the Marple Baths building was "very much loved" but "would have taken too much to repair."
